Dead Man’s Diamonds

Issue Number: 5494

What would you do with a handful of contraband diamonds? Pilot Peter Lawrie and Dutch army officer Bart van Hanegen asked themselves that question —and it didn’t take long to answer it. With Holland being overrun by the Germans, they chose to keep the gems for themselves and try to reach the coast ahead of the enemy. But it wasn’t just the Germans they had to contend with. The two fugitives hadn’t bargained on their own guilty consciences… and they were proving to be quite the problem!
